A Pair of Pears

Daily Paintworks Challenge
Another challenge from Daily Paintworks. The challenge was to make each brush stroke a different color or variation of a color. This was a particularly difficult painting to do. I had to wipe it out a couple of times before I could figure out what the heck I was doing wrong. I was unable to make every brush stroke a different color but I got close.

Zippo Challenge

Zippo Challenge in limited palette
Here's a painting I did for the Daily Paintworks-Zippo Challenge. The challenge was to paint this Zippo lighter using only ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and white. I love painting metal and reflections and the two colors happen to make beautiful grays. Since I didn't have to mix a lot of different colors and could just paint in values, I was able to finish it in one evening. The hardest part was taking a photo of the painting. Fortunately, my husband has one of those fancy incredibly complicated cameras and did a great job of capturing the colors and values of the painting. Thanks Honey.

My first recollection

Desk Doodle
My first recollection of learning how to draw was from the  Jon-Gnagy-Original Learn To Draw Kit. As a kid I found it exciting that I could draw anything by starting with a circle or a square. My favorite was the pumpkin. That was 50 years ago and they still sell it.

Two Tiny Paintings

Salt Grinder
I like painting on the 3x3" canvases. I have to economize my brush strokes and there isn't a lot of colors to mess with. It's good practice and I can complete them in a short amount of time. I spent about 20 minutes on each painting. Painting glass is quite a challenge, especially on tiny canvases.

Desk Doodle
Sometimes I just need a break from whatever it is I'm doing at work and will start doodling "stuff" on my desk. It's a great way to recharge my mind and feel good about actually completing an activity which, as anyone who's worked at a large company knows, rarely happens.

10 Minute Challenge

Clementines - 10 Minute Challenge
The Daily Paintworks  is an online gallery of twelve very talented daily painters. Carole Marine, one of the artist,  is posting a weekly challenge which is open to everybody. I did the 10 Minute challenge and choose a clementine tangerine as my subject. I painted each one in a 3x3 inch square and in 10 minutes. It was a great experience because I was forced to plan ahead, reduce the subject to a few simple forms and values and limit my brush strokes.

Art Project - Powered by Google

Desk Doodle

I've just discovered something wonderful. Google has launched a new website called Google - Art Project. It's a "collaboration with art museums around the world to enable people to enjoy their collections without leaving the house". The Art Project takes you on a 360 degree "street view" tour of individual galleries. Not only do you view the paintings from street view, you can get up close to see details like brush strokes. There are audio tours and YouTube videos about individual paintings and the painters. I am so excited.
