When hiking, I like to pick up fallen debris such as acorns and seed pods. I picked these up years ago and I'm guessing they're from a white oak. I checked the internet and had no idea there where so many species of oak trees.

There were many recommendations on the internet for the Stillman & Birn Sketchbooks. I bought the 5 ½” x 8 ½” Alpha Series. The paper has a nice tooth and can be erased many times without a problem. It does buckle a bit with heavy use of watercolors.

My Sunday morning ink and watercolor sketch. I enjoy waking up early on the weekend to spend some quiet time sketching. I'll make a cup of tea or coffee, put on meditation music and set up a simple still life to paint. It's a good way to start the day.

I'm trying to do ink and watercolor sketches which I find are more spontaneous then detailed drawings. This is a sketch done on a Canson Sketch pad which is okay for pencil and ink but terrible with watercolor.

As an oil painter I find working with watercolors a challenge in patience. I must have painted 15 layers of various reds to get this intense color. By the way, this is a great little teapot. It keeps the tea hot, doesn't dribble and the lid is attached.

I got up early this morning to enjoy my flower garden, the variety of birds at my bird feeder and the peace it brings to me. As is typical of New Jersey suburban living, my neighbor had the same idea except he needed to mow his lawn. Oh well.
